Berlinale Berlin International Film Festival 9th-20th June 2021

Originally to be held in February 202,this world renowned event will now take place in June 2021.

Recognized as the largest international film festival in the world, the Berlinale (Berlin International Film Festival) typically welcomes over 20,000 industry pros and critics to the German capital, from over 120 different countries. In the past, this annual film festival typically welcomed over 330,000 attendees and fans each year. 

This year the event will show 400 films from around the world, and depending on COVID restrictions in the city, will be held throughout a number of cinemas and open air sites.

The Berlinale Jury typically awards 8 main prizes a year. The jury is made up of previous award winners. The most well-known awards include The Golden Bear for Best Film, and The Silver Bears awarded to the best actor and actress. 

Awards will be handed out in a range of different categories. Films in the Competition category are typically international productions, those in the Generation category are films geared towards younger audiences, while in the Panorama category the focus is very much on independent and art-house films. There is also a category for new German cinema releases, as well as for films from different countries. 

The event will also include a homage to the life’s work of a recognized film personality, as well as a thematic retrospective of film work throughout the year. 

The festival is dedicated to promoting filmmaking as an art form, and aims to recognize talent in this field from around the world.
