What am I looking for in a Co-living Community?
What am I looking for in a Co-living community?
This is the thing, when it comes to looking for a co-living community it’s all about choosing the right place to live, work and play. And this means different things for different people.
But essentially if you are on the search for a co-living community, chances are you are looking for somewhere to live that prioritizes connection and relationship.
You may be searching for something that resembles more closely a traditional co-living community - one where living accommodation is shared, and nothing is really private. Or you might be searching for something a little more evolved, a little more private, and ultimately a little more luxurious.
Whatever you are searching for however there are a few basics when it comes to tracking down the right co-living community -
1. You need a community that understands the importance of connection. This is the defining feature of such a community and it is the core tenet it sits on. How a co-living community does this may differ from space to space - it may be how a complex is designed in order to facilitate conversation and interactions, it may be due to the inclusion of communal and community spaces (think rooftop bars, gyms, private cinemas, co-working spaces, outdoor and green spaces) and it may include a community that regularly organizes social events, be that yoga workshops, cooking classes or other community events.
2. Your search for a community should focus on values that align with yours. A community planned and developed with sustainability in mind - from its design, to its operations, to its belief in a better future. A community that believes in a new approach to development that prioritizes mixed-use developments and multi-use communities, that understands that how we live, work and play is changing. Urban centres are changing and central to these changes is the need to rethink urban planning and living, with housing complexes that understand the depth and quality we currently demand in how and where we live.
3. Quality living spaces. Prioritizing community doesn’t mean having to sacrifice on the quality of your living space. You can have both. You can have a great space, beautifully-designed and furnished, to call home in some of the world’s leading cities, and still find a community that has relationships at its heart. But you also have your own space - so you can choose when to connect, and when not to. You get to build your own community, within a community.
4. Evolved co-living should be hassle-free living. Let’s explain this. Furnished flats and apartments help, of course but evolved co-living offers more than that. It offers kitchens stocked with all appliances and hardware, it means remote check-in and move-in, and it means service that follows you not only through move-in but throughout your stay as well. This means any little issue, from a leaking tap to an electrical appliance out of order, is taken care of as and when it happens.
5. Flexibility is crucial - not only the flexibility to move within cities between co-living communities (because let’s face it, sometimes it can take time to find the right neighbourhood that fits) but also between countries as well. This is a new era, one driven by remote workers and digital nomads, now more than ever and flexibility is quite simply the name of the game. This means leases that can extend from a few months to years, depending on where you need to be and when.
No one can guarantee that a co-living community is the right fit for you, sometimes these things have to be tried to be fully understood. But if you begin your search with some of what we believe are essential to a co-living community, you shouldn’t be too far off when it comes to finding somewhere great to live.
