Celebrating the Greenery in our Lives this Houseplant Week

It’s time to give a big shout-out to all the wonderful plants that bring life and beauty to our homes. Not only are houseplants great for adding a bit of greenery to any room, but they can also help to purify the air and reduce stress.

A recent review of 42 studies demonstrated that just being in the presence of indoor plants can improve your mental and physical health. These studies are centred around the mere presence of plants, so how much more so will we benefit by caring for and nurturing houseplants?

With many people living within flats and access to gardens limited, bringing the outdoors in is the perfect solution. They are also natural air purifiers. By absorbing toxins like formaldehyde, benzene, and trichloroethylene, they can help improve air quality in your home. Not only that, but they also help to add moisture to the air—a boon for those who suffer from dry skin or static electricity.

Every year during the second week in January, people around the UK celebrate houseplants. As many are saying goodbye to the festive season there is a drop in the general mood of people, so through Houseplant Week UK we focus on not having to lose the freshness and vibrancy that plants bring to our homes just because the holidays have drawn to a close.

Here are some ideas for ways to celebrate Houseplant Week:

  • Take some time to give your houseplants some TLC. This could mean anything from repotting or trimming them, to giving them a good spray of water. Take some time to admire their beauty, give them a good talking to, or even take a picture to share with the world!

  • Buy a new houseplant for your home. There are so many varieties to choose from, so you’re sure to find something that fits your style. Some popular choices include fiddle leaf figs, succulents, snake plants, philodendrons, and peace lilies.

  • Give houseplant gifts to your friends and family. Spread the love and greenery by sharing these beautiful gifts with others.

From purifying the air to lifting your spirits, houseplants have an important role to play in our homes. So why not pick up a few during Houseplant Week and add a bit of greenery to your space?
