Get Outdoors in London

It's that time of year again, where the sun shines, music plays, and people flock outdoors. It's time to get out there and enjoy some of the spectacular summer outdoor activities that London has to offer.

Living in London means there are endless opportunities to pack your picnic blanket, and head outdoors, here we outline 3 different ways to be entertained while out in nature, enjoying the beautiful summer weather.

Outdoor Music

With a breathtaking backdrop that takes in views across the entire city, acres of parkland to explore, plus access to some of the hidden corners of the iconic Alexandra Palace, Kaleidoscope is a summer festival like no other. Taking place on Saturday 23rd July, the lineup will not disappoint, and demonstrates it’s a favourite event for artists too.

Sun City in the Park will be shining on August 27th, celebrating 30 years of UK Garage and House music. This is an event on a large scale, with a lineup of over 25 performers, attractions, funfair, and a whole lot more across multiple tents and music genres. If dancing all day long and well into the sunset hours is your thing, then make sure to book tickets for this one!

If something a little more chilled out is what you’re looking for, then head over to Outdoor Summer Peace Concert & Yoga Jam taking place in Harrow Carers Grounds on the 24th July. The event is free and listed as an alcohol and smoke-free event. It is expected to be a chilled-out, uplifting afternoon of freestyle high vibe world music, mantra jams, meditation, yoga, laughter yoga, freestyle dance, motivational talks, poetry and inspired mingling.

Adventure Cinema Outdoor Screenings

If live music isn’t your thing, then how about the screening of a movie out in the fresh air?

Adventure Cinema offers some of the most beautiful locations to kick back with a picnic and a movie. This summer they are offering over 200 outdoor cinema screenings at stunning venues across the UK.

The venue on offer closest to central London, is Beckenham Place Park, the biggest green space in the London borough of Lewisham, this renowned wildlife site features sensory gardens, ancient woodland and a stunning lake. It is within easy cycling distance for much of south-east London, and is a spectacular venue for an outdoor cinema. Adventure Cinema is offering 3 award-winning films that will be screened by the lake. The films are West Side Story - Friday 19th, Mamma Mia - Saturday 20th and Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone - Sunday 21st. The screening is a 5-10 minute walk from the Southend Lodge gate or the Braeside gate and with a standard ticket costing £14.50, this is looking like the perfect opportunity to kick back among the finely aged oak trees and watch a movie. Pack a picnic or come hungry, ready to eat one of The Fat Crust’s delicious "Canotto" style Neapolitan pizzas, which will be on sale.

Outdoor Comedy

London's most critically-acclaimed comedy festival is back! Greenwich Comedy Festival returns to the grounds of the iconic National Maritime Museum for its fourteenth year. Offering a stunning series of open-air shows starring the absolute best comedians, you can’t go wrong with a night of laughter, food and drinks.

This year’s programme features British Comedy Award winner Stewart Lee, as well as Frankie Boyle, Dylan Moran, Sindhu Vee and Simon Amstell to name just a few of the incredible acts performing in the fully-seated arena.

As well as laughs, on offer will also be amazing street food-stalls, there to serve up all kinds of delicious bites, and a selection of bars, offering champion beers from Greenwich’s very own Meantime Brewery, cocktails by Naked Malt, a spirited array from Greenall’s Gin. Pairing award-winning comedy with the very best from the local street-food scene, sounds like a match made in heaven to us.
Running from the 14th to the 18th of September and costing £25 a person, make sure to enter this one into your dairy!
