Grassroots Gigs at Wembley Park this Summer

Wembley Park Live will offer a season of free performances, featuring new talent from across London.

There is always something going on at Wembley Park, but this summer is special. From April 28 to September 25, Wembley Park, in partnership with Busk in London, is hosting a line-up of live grassroots gigs. Performances are staged in prime locations across Wembley Park so that everyone can enjoy the free music. Considering that no events could take place for years due to the pandemic, this is especially exciting.

For 2022, there is another unique factor: the Soundshell, Wembley Park Live’s brand-new stage. What makes this stage different from most is that it is uniquely designed to create an acoustic experience, especially for grassroots talent. It is positioned right in front of Wembley Stadium, showing that Wembley is fast becoming London’s home of music.

For new artists, this could be an opportunity to get discovered. If you are a musician (or know someone who is), this is your chance to perform and get the exposure and experience you need. On May 19, BBC Introducing will host a unique programme of up-and-coming artists. And on International Busking Day (July 16), Wembley Park hosts a day-long celebration of pop-up music and street performers. Supported by the Mayor of London, it highlights performances by international and local artists.

Jess Iszatt, presenter of BBC Introducing in London, said: ‘It’s fantastic that live music is back after such a long time without it during the pandemic. We’re excited to be able to programme a full day of music in such an iconic music destination as Wembley Park. So many acts dream of headlining at Wembley Stadium and for Wembley Park to give grassroots talent this platform shows how your musical career can kick start in a place where the biggest acts headline.’

Wembley Park Live showcases all kinds of grassroots talents. Popular acts include Lucy May Walker, Charlotte Campbell and Josh Gleaves, but there are also many new acts, selected from a 2022 talent call. Genres range from folk to pop and classical to country, as well as everything in between. No matter what you like, you will find it during the next few months. As their site says: “Wembley Park Live brings the joy of performances and music to the masses, all for free.”
