Why We Love Warsaw in the Summer

Summer is here! The advent of longer days, and sunshine-filled ones, has us excited about everything that the Polish capital has to offer in terms of summer fun and activities. 

While we know the summer of 2021 is still not a summer of normalcy, and we can not stress enough how crucial it is you stick to local government health regulations and directives, we are also more than ready to welcome the summer and all it has to offer. 

Strawberries, strawberries, strawberries

Say what you will, but the way the capital fills with strawberries at this time of year has us squealing in delight at their plumpness, sweetness and just all-round deliciousness. And when we say the capital fills, we mean this fruit is available everywhere. Grab a punnet to enjoy by the river, or with a cold glass of wine, or take to share at a picnic - just make sure you get your fill of this healthy, Polish grown snack. Summer is also the perfect time to sample Truskawkowy (strawberry) ice-cream. 

The river and all its delights

Head to the river - we can not think of a better place to enjoy the summer sun than the Warsaw Vistula. It has plenty of sandy flats to relax on, and its positioning means it gets less wind off the Baltic. It is Warsaw’s prime summer sunbathing spot, and for good reason. The river however is not only about sunbathing and relaxing, it also serves as a party venue, has plenty of bars as well as walking and bike paths. You can also enjoy a range of water sports here, as well as its sandy beaches and there are also plenty of opportunities to spot some local wildlife. Opt for the Praga side, it is less developed and generally more wild, or the Centrum side which is cemented and more organized - its floating bars are not to be missed. 

Breakfast in the park

Get up early, or earlyish, and make sure not to miss one of Warsaw’s famous Breakfast Markets. Yes, you heard us right! One example of this is the Park Skaryszewski (Praga) Breakfast Market, held every second Sunday from 10am to 5pm, okay so you don’t actually have to get up that early - this is more of a whole day eating experience. But apart from the amazing food on offer, and there is plenty from home made local delicacies, to international samplings, we also love the park location - making it quite possibly the ultimate place to have a picnic. 

Events galore

Find an event - from concerts and live shows, to free yoga workshops in one of the city's parks, to art exhibits and gallery openings - Warsaw has it all. From bars on its rivers, to events in parks - Warsaw is quite easily one of our favourite European destinations in the summer. Actually all year round too - but the summer, like everywhere, is something special.
